MMA COURSE

Mixed Martial Arts at The Roman Gladiators

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is one of the most complete martial arts forms of all time. By combining striking, grappling, and groundwork, it equips practitioners with the skills needed for a 360-degree fight.

At The Roman Gladiators (TRG), we focus on developing these skills through a complete MMA course that covers every aspect of the game. Mastering MMA takes more time than specializing in a single martial art because it requires a broader range of skills and knowledge. For this reason, our grading system is different from those used in traditional martial arts.

Our founder and head coach studied numerous martial arts with the goal of taking the best techniques from each. He refined these skills and organized them into a structured hierarchy that ensures the most effective coaching possible. MMA encompasses elements from many martial arts, but it is not merely a combination of them all. Instead, it represents the essential, functional aspects of each, allowing practitioners to focus on what works best in a real MMA fight.

TRG MMA METHOD

Our head coach has developed a scientific method to progressively enhance both the skills and mindset of each athlete. Over the years, as physical performance has advanced, so too has the science behind sports. In this context, skill development has become the key to surpassing athletic performance. Our scientific approach is based on continuous progress, focusing on refining and perfecting each athlete's abilities by measuring key factors such as structural positioning, movement dynamics (whether striking, throws, or submissions), power, speed, accuracy, and more.

This method allows fighters to concentrate on specific areas of their training, targeting precise aspects of their learning journey for optimal development.

Striking: Our striking program equips fighters with a diverse range of styles, including Boxing, Kickboxing, and Muay Thai. This diversity allows our fighters to adapt to specific strategies we plan to use for a fight, seamlessly integrating two or even three game plans.

Grappling: We draw from wrestling, judo, and Greco-Roman styles, refining and categorizing these techniques specifically for MMA. The result is a polished grappling system that is highly effective in mixed martial arts, offering a high probability of success in various situations.

Groundwork: TRG groundwork training combines Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and Judo, focusing on three key areas: Ground & Pound (G&P), control and transitions, and submissions. Each aspect is analysed and integrated to provide complete dominance on the ground, allowing the athlete to smoothly transition between tactics while setting up the opponent for our intended strategy.

Is TRG MMA Only for Fighters?

While many gyms reserve MMA training exclusively for fighters, our program at The Roman Gladiators (TRG) is designed to ensure that anyone can learn and practice MMA. Our disciplined approach makes training accessible to all, regardless of experience. No one will be forced or encouraged against their will to fight or spar. Fighting and sparring are distinct disciplines, and participation is always a personal choice. For those who do aim to compete, training will be conducted alongside others who share the same mindset and goals.

MMA is ultimately a combat sport, with the primary focus on learning how to fight. Whether or not you wish to compete, our training emphasizes developing the skills and mindset of a fighter, ensuring every member is prepared as if they were stepping into the cage.

Our Head Coach Insight.

The beauty of MMA lies in the ability to face diverse challenges, providing opportunities to explore many aspects of human nature—both physical and mental. As our head coach often says, "A body without a mind is like a Formula 1 car without a driver." At The Roman Gladiators, we train not only the body but also the mind, ensuring that every athlete is fully equipped to handle whatever comes their way.
